MEADE – William Dean Borth, 97, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.

He was born Aug. 26, 1921 to Otto and Zola M. (Mathews) Borth in rural Meade County. 

He married Isabelle Forman Dec. 29, 1946, at the Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death July 9, 2008.

He graduated from Plains High School. He enrolled in Dodge City Community College for two semesters and then transferred to Kansas State University. 

He was drafted into the Army and was assigned to the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II.  

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, served on the Meade USD 226 school board, and was a member of the American Legion.  

Survivors include son, Gregory Dean Borth, Meade; daughter, Sandra (Sandy) Lee Clay, Alsea, Ore.; grandsons, Gabriel Clay and Nathaniel Clay; and four great-grandchildren: Ava, Anya, Emery, and Rhodes Clay. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jay Otto Borth and James H. Borth; and sister, Pauline Arnold Garrison.

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade. 

Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Meade. 

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.  

Memorials are suggested to the Beam Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
