viola kautzViola Cordova Kautz, 78, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at her home in Arthur City, Texas.

She was born Nov. 11, 1939 to Mary Fuentes and Henry Cordova in Loving, Wy. 

She married Leroy Kautz in 1958. He survives.

She graduated from Liberal High School in Liberal.  

While raising her three children she pursued her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. and taught kindergarten for 10 years in Stratford, Texas. 

She then received her master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla. and was counselor for the Stratford ISD until her retirement after 25 years. 

She also served as a social worker for Coldwater Manor for many years. 

She loved her church, community and served on many boards and belonged to many organizations. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Al Velasquez; uncle, Joe R. Fuentes; son, Leroy Kautz Jr.; grandson, Connor Allen Duffy; and granddaughter, Aschely Kautz.

Survivors also include three children: Toby Kautz, Arthur City, Texas, Jeff (Lynette) Kautz, Stratford, Texas, and Millie (Robert) Duffy, Heath, Texas; grandchildren: Whitney (Brandon) Surratt, Miami, Okla., Chad Kautz, San Diego, Joshua (Meredith) Kautz, Rowlett, Texas, April Kautz, Amarillo, Texas, Craig (Krista) Kautz, Mustang, Okla., Austen (Devon) Duffy, Richardson, Texas, Camryn Duffy, Heath, Texas, Tanya (James) Proffitt, Irving, Texas, Dony (Paula) Kautz, Healdton, Okla., and Christina (Richard) Murphy, Moore, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Holdyn Kautz, Taylor and Kaylee Kautz, Shelly, Caroline and Abby Murphy, Bentley Surratt, and Katya and Dima Proffitt; siblings: Dorothy Millen, Liberal, Irene (Edward) Kemper, Marietta, Okla., Maxine (Jimmy) Montoya, Tucumcari, N.M., Shirley (Rueben) Montano, Whitefield, Colo., Robert Velasquez, Baker, Okla., Ray (Irene) Velasquez, Ulysses, Tom (Diana) Velasquez, Yukon, Okla., Abel Velasquez, Liberal, and Joe (Cindy) Velasquez, Turpin, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford, Texas.

Burial will follow the services.  

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford, Texas, with the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Stratford, TX or Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Paris, TX.
