viola bangsULYSSES – Viola A. Bangs, 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

She was born Jan. 21, 1922 to Theodore Herman and Margaret Amelia (Stefen) Wehmeler in Clapham, N.M. 

She married Joseph M. Emerson May 12, 1937, in Clayton, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1964.   

She married Merle Bangs Jan. 11, 1978, in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a cook at the Alamo Supper Club in Ulysses and also Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed playing cards, family vacations, and making pies during the holidays. 

Survivors include daughter, Peggy Peden, Lakin; three grandchildren: Joe Peden and wife, Suzie, Pam Wallgren, and Kurtis Peden and wife, Tess; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Wirz; five brothers; and one sister.

• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses. 

Private burial will take place at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. 

Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village or donor’s choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.
