vi heckelULYSSES – Vi Heckel, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 at her home in Grant County.  

She was born April 21, 1930, in Burlington to Harry Albert and Minnie (Kennard) Mattox. 

She married Leon F. Heckel Oct. 30, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2011.

She graduated from Cimarron High School.  

She helped around the farm and in the barn, feeding the horses, pigs and cattle, and hauling hay.  

She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.

Survivors include son, Greg Heckel and wife, Robin, Ulysses; daughter, Dee Ann Heckel, Ulysses; sister, Alberta Land, Ochelata, Okla.; seven grandchildren: Erin Fair and husband, James, Tiffany Heckel, Alisha Owens and husband, Alan, Elizabeth Mathes and husband, Adam, Greggi Gardner and husband, Cody, AJ Heckel and wife, Denise, and Derek Heckel; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shari Lynn Davison; and sisters, Doris and Nellie.

• Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 at Silent Land Cemetery in Spearville.  

There will be no public calling hours.  

Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.
