MEADE – Roy Twist, Jr, 95, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at the Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade.

He was born Jan. 31, 1923 to Roy and Anna J. (Jenkins) Twist in Hutchinson. 

He married Betty Jo Laird Jan. 28, 1949 in Abilene. She precedes in death March 19, 2017.

He graduated from Meade High School. He later attended the New Mexico Military Institute and the University of Kansas.  

After his schooling, he worked for a couple of years in Texas selling dry ice. 

He later returned to Meade to assist with his family’s businesses, including Marrs and Twist.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Webb Lodge AF & AM, the Scottish Rite, OES, various card clubs, Kiwanis International, had served as an elder of the Presbyterian Church, Mayor of Meade and on the Meade City Council.  

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, the Kansas City Chiefs football, traveling, and had a fondness for the University of Kansas sports.

Survivors include sons: Roy Twist III, Leawood, Kevin Twist, McAlester, Okla., and Jeff Twist, Boulder, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

• Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade.  

Burial will follow the service in the Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Cremation has taken place.  

Memorials are suggested to the Meade Golf Course in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
