Phillip J. (Phil) Bartel, 61, died Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the Ashland Health Center in Ashland as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 9, 1956 to Pete R. and Malenda L. (Penner) Bartel in Meade.  

He married Maralee Wiens Aug. 7, 1976 in Meade. She survives.

He graduated from Meade High School in 1974. After his graduation, he attended Tabor College, Hillsboro, receiving his undergraduate degree.  

He began his career as a well driller with Bartel Well Drilling for more than forty years. In later years, he also continued his family’s baking business, Bartel Bake Shop.
