melvin cookMelvin L. Cook, 75, died Sunday, April 7, 2019 at his home. 

He was born May 7, 1943 to Henry and Twila (Black) Cook near Cheney. 

He married Sharon Komarek Nov. 23, 1963 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Liberal. She survives.

He was a graduate of Cheney High School with the Class of 1960. He graduated from Wichita Barber College in 1960.

He later purchased the barber shop in Plains and operated it with his wife as "His and Her's Barber and Beauty Shop" until 1980. 

In 1978 he went to work with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. as a Measurement Tech, retiring in November 2016. He served as a Master Mason at the Plains Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Plains Jaycee's, and a former City Council member. 

He enjoyed restoring vintage autos and riding his motorcycle. 

Survivors also include son, Matt Cook and wife, Jill, Mulvane; daughters, Stacey Woods and husband, Barry, Meade, and Mary Packard and husband, Rob, Plains; brother, Raymond Cook, Midland, Texas; sister, Debbie Avila and husband, Robert, Haysville; sister-in-law, Donita Box and husband, David, Liberal; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Cook; brother, Charles Cook; and sister, Beverly Reavis.

• Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel in Liberal with Barry Woods presiding. 

Cremation has taken place.
