marilyn hamptonULYSSES – Marilyn Hampton, 91, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2019. 

She was born Sept. 9, 1928 to Harold and Erma (Smith) Green in Blue Mound.

She graduated from Blue Mound High School with the Class of 1946.  She grew up going to dances all over the countryside – Cadmus, Colony, Fulton, Ft. Scott, Mound City, Iola, etc.  Her first job was a telephone operator manually connecting calls. 

She loved Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson, Elvis’ hymns and the Tommy Dorsey Band.

She loved baking, with her specialties being butterscotch pie, chocolate pies, baked chicken with real cream, and steak. 

She loved to sew, crochet, and quilt.

Survivors include sons, Marshall Mills and wife, Lynette, Ulysses, and Jerry Mills and wife, Marietta, Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Jane Irsik, Mapleton; stepdaughters: Cindy Fenton and husband, Kevin, Holcomb, Donna Schell and husband, Dave, Ulysses, Terri Trotman, Ulysses; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Curly.

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019 at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger presiding. 

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. 

Memorials are suggested to the Ulysses Animal Shelter in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.
