lawrence mahoneyLawrence Edward Mahoney, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 at Homestead Estates Home Plus in Liberal. 

He was born Aug. 24, 1938 to Lawrence and Bernice (Swenson) Mahoney in Lyons. 

He married Bernice Hillery Dec. 22, 1963 in Oakley. She survives.

He graduated from Lindsborg High School with the Class of 1956. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Bethany College. He received his MBA from Fort Hays State University. 

He taught at Oakley High School, Colby Community College and Garden City Community College. He was vice-president and dean of fiscal affairs at Colby Community College. He was dean of administrative services at Garden City Community College.

Survivors also include three daughters: Michele Schonlau and husband, Matthew, Ulysses,Tanya Dowell and husband, Luke, Liberal, and Marcie Albers and husband, Heath, Warrensburg, Mo.; sister, Phyllis Mahoney Kelling and husband, Lyle, Lindsborg; six grandchildren: Cameron Schonlau and Cheyenne Derrick, Ryan Schonlau, Daniel Dowell, Nathan Dowell, Abbie Dowell and Heather Albers; great-grandchildren, Kennedi Lanham and Cole Schonlau; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at the Oakley United Methodist Church in Oakley with Pastor Wehling presiding. 

Burial will follow at the Oakley Cemetery in Oakley.
