joe baierJoseph (Joe) Theodore Baier, 84, died, Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.

He was born July 16, 1934 to Joseph Baier and Monica Unrien Baier in Holcomb. 

He married Deloris Rinehart October 24, 1959 in Garden City. She preceded him in death Jan. 7, 2007.

He graduated from Holcomb High School in 1952.

He served in the United States Army beginning Feb. 13, 1957 and was honorably discharged Jan. 12, 1959.

He worked in an alfalfa mill as a general hand. He also worked for John Reimer as a farm hand. 

He worked as the manager of CO-OP Plains Equity.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Plains. 

He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking fishing and hunting.

Survivors include sons, Jeff Baier and wife, Kim, Ulysses, and Jay Baier and wife, Brenda, Liberal; daughters, Joetta Baier, Liberal, and Jennifer Baier, Farmington N.M.; brother, Victor Baier and wife, Kay, Colwich; sisters, Barbara Hunter and husband, Gary, Salina, and Anna Hoover and husband, Duane, Blue Spring, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Liz Baier, Garden City, and Wilma Baier, Garden City; grandchildren: Kelsi Sneyd, Molly Coley, Ashton Baier and Dakin Baier; and great-grandchildren: Wyatt Sneyd, Case Coley, Jeremey Baier, Lane Baier and Emily Baier.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray and Martin; sisters, Mary Kuhlman and Irene Patton; and brothers-in-law, Duane Patton and Gary Hunter.

• Rosary will be 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Plains.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Plains with Reverend Ted Skalsky presiding. 

Burial will take place at the Kismet Cemetery in Kismet, with military honors by the Liberal American Legion Post # 80.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.
