john boylanULYSSES – John Fletcher Boylan, 86, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at Asbury Park in Newton.

He was born Feb. 27, 1932, to Okel Harrison and Theresa (Johnson) Boylan and raised in rural Grant County. 

He married Eula Pauline Brewer Feb. 10, 1952 at the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses.  She survives.

After graduating from Grant County Rural High School in 1949, he briefly attended Hutchinson Community College.

He served as a school board member for Red Rock School USD 214, and served on the local hospital board.  

He also was an avid Rotarian and enjoyed being with the Ulysses Rotary Club. 

He had a passion for flying and built an ultra-light plane which has been donated to the Liberal Air Museum where it remains on display today.

Survivors also include son, Kelly C. Boylan and wife, Kelly, Wichita; daughters, Jana Leddy and husband, Tony, Edmond, Okla., and Dana Kreie and husband, Rod, Newton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patricia (Boylan) Borthwick.

• Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.  

There will be a private burial at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.  

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ulysses First United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
