homer hunterHomer Lloyd Hunter, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at his home in Monument. 

He was born Sept. 23, 1944 to Joseph W. and Dorothy M. (Stratman) Hunter in the Little River Hospital in Rice County. 

He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1962, and graduated from Cowley County Community Junior College in 1966. 

He worked on the family farm and as an oilfield worker as a young man and later worked as a foreman for Kruse Dirt Construction in Liberal. He also worked as a large equipment salesman for Sellers Tractor Company.  He retired from Logan County as an equipment operator. 

His retirement years were spent traveling with his companion, Joyce Nollette, in their motor home visiting friends and family, and meticulously maintaining their property in Monument. 

He was a proud United States Air National Guard veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #241, Geneseo. 

Survivors include his companion, Joyce Nollette, Monument, KS; Joyce’s family: son, Tim Nollette and wife, Kim, Great Bend adn their family; daughter, Gayla (Nollette) McGinnis and husband, Mike, Frisco, TeXas and their family; brother, Wayne Hunter, Lyons; sisters, Joan Kruse, Liberal, and Phyllis Gray and husband, Scott, Salina; sister-in-law, Mary Hunter, Augusta; Joyce’s eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Estelle Schmidt and Velta Joyce Hunter; brothers, John Hunter and Clayton Hunter; brother-in-law, Charles Schmidt; and nephew, Charles Warren Schmidt.

• Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. 

Burial will be at the Geneseo Cemetery in Geneseo with military honors by the United States Airforce. 

Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. 

Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post #241, Geneseo, in care of Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons.
