hermilo avitiaJOHNSON – Hermilo Avitia-Misclez, 71, died Monday, June 17, 2019 at his home in Johnson. 

He was born Jan. 13, 1948 to Jesus and Candelaria (Misclez) Avitia in Gomez Faris, Chihuahua, Mexico.

He married Cora Minjarez in 1972 in Rocky Ford, Colo. She survives.

He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, playing cards and was known for his jokes and storytelling. 

Survivors also include son, Gildardo Avitia, Johnson; daughters, Tina Olivas, Las Cruces, N.M., and Alicia Avitia, Johnson; sisters: Ramona Torres, Newton, Chavela Ruiz, Denton, Texas, and Carmelina Ruiz, Denton, Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and four sisters.

• Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses with Reverend Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS presiding. 

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. 

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
