gladys calhoun

Gladys H. Calhoun, 95, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Springfield Villa Nursing Home in Springfield, Mo.  

She was born Jan. 5, 1924 to John S. and Maud C. (Hogle) Phifer in Quinlan, Okla. 

She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1941. 

She married Dean Elden Calhoun Oct. 6, 1944. He preceded her in death in June of 1988. 

She worked for Beech Aircraft making airplane parts for 17 years, while raising her family, retiring in May of 1984. 

She enjoyed Kansas City Chiefs football, Kansas City Royals baseball and the Kansas Jayhawks and at times the Oklahoma Sooners. 

She also enjoyed bowling and achieved the title of Kansas State Senior Bowling Champion in 1987. She was also voted bowler of the year in 1987. 

She enjoyed painting sceneries and making other crafts. 

She also participated in Liberal’s Pancake Day race in 1960. 

She also enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping, traveling and playing card games with her husband. They both enjoyed being around family for holidays. 

She moved to Rogersville, Mo. in 2007 and was a member of the Rogersville Church of Christ. 

Survivors include three sons: Steve Calhoun and wife, Gail, Rogersville, Mo., Darrell Calhoun and wife, Teri, Cape Coral, Fla., and Rory Calhoun and wife, Terry, Richmond, Texas; daughters, Yvonne Hauschild and husband, Wayne, Dunedin, Fla., and Kimberly Klein and husband, Mark, Norman, Okla.; sister, Erma Skalsky, Dalhart, Texas; sister-in-law, Avis Bridenstine, Iowa City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; one brother; son, Daniel Calhoun; and great-granddaughter, Kynadee Boese.

• Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Grant Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal, and her ashes will be buried with her husband at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in Liberal.
