Gene Eldon Myrick, 87, died Thursday July 18, 2019 at Homestead Estates in Liberal. 

He was born June 7, 1932 to William Harmon and Emma (Bible) Myrick in Moscow. 

He married Glenna E. Clodfelter Jan. 14, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Liberal. She preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2014. 

He worked 35 years in the natural gas industry including Northern Natural Gas and National Helium, retiring from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline where he retired as a Superintendent. 

After retiring from Panhandle he went to work part-time at Miller Bike & Hobby Shop. 

He was active within his community, where he served on numerous boards including the USD 480 School Board in1972; the Airport Advisory Board, the Southwest Kansas Vo-Tech Advisory Board, the Seward County Fair Board, Seward County Council for Aging and the Southwest Medical Center's Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2008. 

Survivors include son, Steve Myrick and wife, Lori, Lawrence; daughter, Julie Thayer and husband, Bill, San Diego; daughter-in-law, Teresa Myrick, Powell, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Ron Clodfelter, Liberal; three granddaughters: Rebecca Wagner and husband, Eric, Lecompton, Kate Diehl and husband, Bob, Evanston, Ill., and Amanda Michel, Colorado Springs; grandsons, Brett Myrick and wife, Stephani, Washington D.C., and Anthony Myrick and wife, Kiley, Chicago; and six great-grandchildren. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jeff Myrick and Tim Myrick; brothers, Ralph Myrick and Philip Myrick; and sister, Ione Shuck.

• A private family burial has taken place at the Liberal City Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be announced at a later date.
