PLAINS – Darrell D. Langhofer, 88, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at Newton Medical Center in Newton. 

He was born July 21, 1930 to William (Bill) and Noval Langhofer in Dodge City. 

He married Mary Ellen Douglass June 11, 1961 in Burlington. She preceded him in death.

He attended the Plains school system and graduated in 1948. 

After graduation, he farmed and ranched until joining the Army. He served from 1954 to 1956, spending a year in Germany. 

He worked as a farmer until he retired in 2001. 

He belonged to the United Methodist in Plains, serving as a trustee and various committees. He was also a past member of the Elks lodge, past Worthy Patron of O.E.S., and was a member of the Masonic Fraternity Lodge, serving as past Master and receiving his 65-year pin this year. 

Survivors include son, Douglass Langhofer and wife, Melissa, Plains; daughter, Debra Bartel and husband, Shaun, Newton; four grandchildren: Sarah, Megan, Kaylen, and Cole; and many nephews and nieces.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Billy Gene Langhofer.

• Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at Plains United Methodist Church with the Reverend Terry Mayhew presiding. 

Burial will take place at the Plains Cemetery in Plains. 

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade. 

The family would welcome memorials to the SWH scholarship fund in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.
