After starting the season at 4-0, the Liberal Redskins dropped their first game of the season Saturday in the championship of the Wichita tournament, falling to Salina Central by a goal, 3-2.

Mike Fonseca and Erich ortiz scored for the Redskins in the loss.

“Salina Central is strong again this year,” Liberal coach Lori Navarro said. “They just beat Bishop Carroll for the blue bracket championship.”

Navarro said the Redskins can defeat the Mustangs, but they will have to play their best game to do it.

The Redskins return to Western Athletic Conference action today when they host Dodge City in a key battle.

The Red Demons will come to Liberal today with a 5-0 record including a 1-0 overtime win over Carroll. Liberal will enter today’s match at 4-1.

Action will begin with junior varsity at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at Redskin Field.
