The Liberal Rattler 9-year-old team played their first game of the Cal Ripken World Series in Treasure Coast, Fla., earlier today and fell 8-0 against Latin America-Miami.

Liberal fell behind 3-0 in the second, and Miami added another run in the third. Miami blew the game open in the fourth with four more runs to take an 8-0 lead.

Alex Gomez had Liberal’s only hit in the first four innings. Bren Kappelmann added a double in the sixth.

The Rattlers had bases loaded in the fifth and runners at second and third in the sixth but could not score.

The Rattlers will play at 11 a.m. today against Quakertown. 

Quakertown faced Boonville in their opener and won 22-7.

The Rattlers are the first Rattler team to earn a Midwest Regional championship and advance to the Cal Ripken World Series.
