Liberal’s boys of summer have extended their seasons in several age groups, and one team became the first to win a Midwest Regional.

The 9-year-old Liberal Rattlers will be competing in the Cal Ripken World Series after winning state and Midwest Regional titles.

The Rattlers became the Kansas champions in Harper. The swept pool play starting with a 24-1 win over Wellington and followed that with a 25-4 win over Harper.

The Rattlers followed on Day 2 of the state tournament with a 15-0 victory over Cottonwood Valley and a 17-5 win over Frontenac.

In the championship bracket, Liberal knocked off Wellington 15-2 and won the championship game over Frontenac, 2-1.

At the Midwest Regional in Frontenac, Liberal defeated Sikeston, mo., 7-0, Lamar, Colo., 15-0 and Bismarck, N.D., 12-3 to sweep pool play.

In the championship bracket, Liberal defeated Boonville, Mo., 13-3 and won the championship game over Bismarck 4-3.

The 13s received an automatic bid to the Midwest Regional in Charleston, Mo., and will play Mineral Area, Mo., Thursday.

The 14s won the state championship by sweeping Haven 12-11 and 15-4. 

The 14 Rattlers will play in the Midwest Regional in Garden City Thursday against Mineral Area.

The 15s also won the Kansas State Championship after hosting the tournament in Liberal.

The Rattler 15s opened with a 17-2 win over Cottonwood Valley in pool play, but lost to Columbus 7-6.

Liberal rallied with a 20-5 win over Grant County, and the Rattlers earned the No. 1 seed in the pool after a three-way tie.

Liberal advanced to the championship bracket and knocked off Holcomb in the semi-final, 15-0.

The Rattlers earned the state title with a 9-5 win over Chapman.

The Rattler 15s will travel to Williston, N.D., to compete in the Midwest Regional Tournament, and the winner will advance to the World Series in Bismarck.
