L&T staff report

The Lady Redskins soccer team ended the regular season with back-to-back ties, ending in a 0-0 draw with Garden City Wednesday and a 2-2 tie with Dodge City Thursday at Redskin Field.

The Lady Redskins fell behind 2-0 in the first half after a hand ball was called in the box and the Lady Red Demons scored on the penalty kick and a mistake by the Lady Redskins on a back pass allowed Dodge City to score another goal.

But Kim Alarcon was moved out of the goal and back on offense, and with an early goal in the second half by Alarcon and a late goal from Valeria Gonzalez, the Lady Redskins rallied for the tie.

At 6-7-3, Liberal still has a chance to host a first-round playoff game depending on the outcome of Friday’s game between Garden City (9-1-5) and Wichita South (7-7-0). Should Garden City win, Liberal will edge out South in seeding, giving the Lady Redskins a home playoff game against the Wichita South Titans.

If Wichita South wins or ties against Garden City, or if the game is canceled, Liberal will travel to Wichita to face the Titans in the first round.

The winner of the Liberal/South game will likely face No. 1 seed Topeka Washburn Rural (13-1-0) in the second round.
