A Liberal man and a Hugoton man were arrested recently in separate incidents on charges concerning drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A release from the Hugoton Police Department said the first arrest happened Feb. 4 when officers initiated a traffic stop around 6:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Main Street in Hugoton.

“The officers made contact with the driver who was identified as Victor Leon, 34 years old, of Liberal,” the release said. “During the investigation of the stop, officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia, including meth, marijuana and pills inside the vehicle.”

The release said Leon was arrested for unlawful distribution of controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges have been forwarded to the county prosecutor.

The release said the second arrest started when officers initiated a traffic stop shortly before 1 a.m. Feb. 5 in the 600 block of South Washington in Hugoton.

“During the investigation of the stop, Officer McCann and Officer Crane searched the vehicle, and drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside,” the release said. “The driver, identified as Joseph Cruz, 18 years old of Hugoton, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and driving while suspended.”

Charges have been forwarded to the county prosecutor.
