Old-fashioned car hops aren’t so retro any more. With a mobile society seeking modern technological conveneinces, and speedy service, the classi sonic Drive In has made significant upgrades to the facility along North Kansas Avenue. 

“While staying true to the core of who we are, we are excited to invest in new guest-facing technology including new digital menu boards and credit card payment systems,” Dale Maley, supervisor for MHR and McCue Group, said. “Drive-In guests can now use the Sonic mobile app to browse the menu, place and pay for orders with the app’s ‘Order Ahead’ feature, and find exclusive deals for a more convenient and personalized experience. We made a few cosmetic renovations as well, such as painting the building and upgrading the lighting. The complete transformation happened over the course of a few weeks.”

The desire to make the necessary updates to the restaurant, Maley said, came from hearing wanting to provide better service to the customers who visited the location. 

“We always want our guests to have a great experience the moment they drive in and that means investing in the physical plant and bringing in new technology to provide a more personalized and streamlined experience,” Maley said. “We’re always listening to our guests’ feedback and looking for ways to improve, so it did not take long for us to quickly implement changes at the drive-in.”

Maley added particular praise for the app and said customers should enjoy having the ability to use it. 

“With the Sonic mobile app, Liberal community guests can now be first in line every time when they order ahead,” an earlier press release from Sonic about the project noted. “When picking up an order, guests can pull into any open drive-in stall and have their order personally delivered by a Carhop without waiting in a drive-thru line or circling the parking lot for a special spot to become available. The Sonic app is free to download, and available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Sonic, which specializes in made-to-order fast food, is known for its specialty menu items and iconic carhop service. A variety of 1.3 million unique drink combinations make Sonic your ultimate drink stop. Liberal residents are invited to share a flavor experience with Sonic including favorite menu items such as innovative burger creations, footlong quarter pound Coneys (hot dogs with chili and cheese), Tots and a variety of premium desserts, made with real ice cream. Sonic’s ever-growing menu is full of options to satisfy every taste, such as boneless wings, made with juicy, all-white meat.”

To celebrate the renovations, the restaurant will be treating customers to a variety of special offers Saturday, including half-price drinks and Slushes all day, 99 cent Mozzarella sticks and other giveaways, including the opportunity to win a bicycle and other items. With all the work that has been done, Maley said staff is excited.

“We are thrilled to see our guests placing and paying for orders with the SONIC’s POPS (point of personalized service) screens and Mobile App,” Maley said. “Natural to our unique business model, the new technologies allows our guests to be first in line every time – an experience no other QSR can offer – in addition to placing orders accurately and learning about dynamic promotions. The drive-in provides an increased order accuracy and even more personalized experience accompanied with new technology.”

Maley also added encouragement for customers to come by and see the work that has been done. 

“Our dining experience allows guests to park in a drive-in stall to place orders from their car, visit the drive-thru or dine on the patio to fill up any time of day while being offered friendly service by iconic Carhops,” Maley said. “Whether guests are stopping by or on the go, our new renovations give guests the opportunity to order classic flavors they love in new ways they’ve never seen before. With Mobile Order Ahead, guests are first in line, every time, without waiting in a drive-thru line or circling the parking lot for a special spot to become available.
