One of the businesses in the plaza at 1406 N. Western has been in the same industry for many years, but in the hands of several owners throughout that time.

That industry is cosmetology, and recently, Dayanara Olson bought the business and began providing hair services to clients.

Olson attended Seward County Community College and has been in the hair industry since 2004, and initially, she said cosmetology was not her choice of career.

“It was going to be just something that I did until I finished school,” she said. “Once I got into the industry, I fell in love with doing hair, so here I am 15 years later.”

Olson now owns O’Hair Salon located in Broadcast Square at 15th and Western, and along with hair, she provides many services for her clients.

“We provide all hair services – haircut, color, highlight,” she said. “We do manicures, pedicures, facial waxing. If you want to get your eyebrows shaved, we can do that as well.”

With her space already being used for cosmetology, Olson said using it for her business just made good sense.

“The salon was already here,” she said. “I think it’s a great location. It’s been here since 1975. It’s just a new face.”

And Olson did not have to do a lot of work to get the space ready for opening.

“It was already really cute,” she said. “I did some sprucing up, updated a little bit.”

Olson officially bought the business two weeks ago, and Thursday, the Liberal Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for O’Hair Salon.

Olson said her customers are what makes cosmetology fun for her.

“What I like is the relationship I build with my clients,” she said. “It’s working with my clients and making sure that they’re needs are met, whether it’s giving them a new hairstyle or a fresh cleaned-up style. It’s just the relationships you build in helping people feel beautiful.”

Olson said with her last name, the choice to go with O’Hair Salon as a name for the business was an easy choice, although she said there may be some confusion with the name’s closeness to a certain well-known airport in Chicago.

“There might be, but you can fly in and get a haircut,” she said.

Olson said customer service is what makes the difference at O’Hair.

“We really personalize to our guests,” she said. “We’re about the guest experience, coming in, making them feel at home and knowing that they’re in good hands.”

O’Hair is open Tuesday through Saturday.

“We do appointments,” Olson said. “Some girls do walkins. It just depends on the hours and depending on what the clients need and our schedules. They can contact the salon or our cell phones, and we also have a Facebook page where you can click ‘Book Now.’ The next couple days, we’re going to have our Web site up and running.”

O’Hair Salon can be reached at 620-604-0858, and Olson can be reached at 620-417-4099. The business can also be found on the Web at

Olson said she is very excited to get her new business up and running.

“I think it’s a breath of fresh hair,” she said.
