With six regular items and three executive sessions on the agenda, Monday’s Seward County Commission meeting took about an hour to finish.

The first item provided a welcome to the county’s new human resources director, Maria Aguilar. Aguilar had previously worked for the county as an administrative assistant for Seward County Administrator April Warden, who had also been serving as the HR director.

The commission then voted unanimously to approve Connie Seigrist to the Council on Aging board to fill the one open term on that board. Seigrist was an incumbent and her three-year term began Monday and will end Dec. 31, 2021.

Next, the commission approved the county’s 2018 fixed assets. This item is done on a yearly basis in order to track and record county assets.

Later, the county’s bank depositories were approved, and those include Equity Bank, Sunflower Bank, Community Bank and Bank of Beaver City.

Commissioners then approved contracts for the county’s three guardian ad litem attorneys appointed at the Dec. 17, 2018, meeting – Nathan Foreman, David West and Jacob Fitzgerald.

The last item prior to the executive sessions had the commission voting unanimously to authorize Seward County Clerk Stacia Long to issue a manual check of the county’s 2019 insurance payments to Al Shank Insurance.

Due to year-end closing procedures a check run for 2019 purchase orders could not be completed until the second meeting in January. Insurance premiums are due before that meeting, which is scheduled for Jan. 18, and therefore, a manual check was requested.

January’s second meeting was moved to the 18th due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday Jan. 21 and lack of a quorum available for a meeting that week.

Commissioners then had three executive sessions that lasted a combined 40 minutes. The only action taken from those sessions was to waive the waiting period for insurance for Aguilar.
