A one-vehicle crash in Meade County left an Ashland man dead late Wednesday night.

The report from the Kansas Highway Patrol did not give a specific location, but it did say a 1996 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Kansas Highway 23 in Meade County, where the highway runs north and south from the town of Meade.

KHP said the Explorer blew a tire and lost control before entering a ditch. The vehicle then started to roll and entered a culvert ending on its top.

The driver, 56-year-old Calvin Dean McGonigle of Ashland, was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City with a fatal injury, according to KHP.

McGonigle was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, the report said.
